Using Windows 2000 Professional. I confirmed that I have MDAC ver 2.8.1022.0
so I downloaded the file MDAC28-KB911562-x86-ENU.exe after original
installation failed. When running that, it states that "Product Version
Check: Failed, click here for details." Details state: "Update could not
identify the installed product version. The installation may be damaged."
Finally I get an error message in a window titled "KB911562 Setup Error" that
states, "KB911562 installation did not complete". What should I try next?
Thank you.

Brad,

Did you use the Component Checker tool to confirm the correct version ?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/301202

There's a link to it on this page :
MDAC Downloads
http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/mdac/...s/default.aspx

I just ran that program and the results are "MDAC 2.8 RTM".

Also, I forgot to mention that I do have Windows 2000 Service Pack 4
installed.

Any more thoughts?

Thanks
Brad

I got it, I found that I needed the windows 2000 service pack 4 with
microsoft data access components 2.8 SERVICE PACK 1 INSTALLED
The service pack 1 was the kicker.
Here is the link to the download:

is working...this blows big chunks.

Same here, although I tried to install the security update that is
especially got the MDAC 2.5 sp3 version... So what I did is: I upgraded to
MDAC 2.8 SP1 first. Then the MDAC security update installed correctly. It is
a workaround though ;-)

Strangely, the MDAC version checker now says I am running a Windows XP SP2
system instead of a Windows 2000 SP4 system!!

Would it have to do with:
"Microsoft strongly recommends that all customers who currently use a
version of Windows that does not have Microsoft Data Access Components 2.7
Service Pack 1 or higher upgrade immediately to Microsoft Data Access
Components 2.8 Service Pack 1 or another supported version. The only
EXCEPTION to this notice is customers who currently use Windows 2000 Service
Pack 4 running Microsoft Data Access Components 2.5 Service Pack 3. See
Knowledge Base Article 915387 for more information."?

Does this mean you are "not strongly recommended to do this" on a W2000 SP4
system, or that you "should not do this" on a W2000 SP4 system?"

I saw a solution suggested in another thread to upgrade the 2.8 RTM to 2.81
(2.8 SP 1). I did that, then ran Windows Update again and voila, the
installation succeeded. Hope this helps.
