is there some way to get additional details on an error code ?

Discovered the problem was with a registry setting I had modified:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\ProgramFilesDir

(I often modify it prior to installing software so that I can control where
the software gets installed)

I was able to determine the problem after Microsoft provided the following
link to install KB911961 manually ... that manual installation provided me
the additional information I needed to identify the problem:
