KB912812 and KB917425 Setup Canceled

Initially I tried to run the Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer
for Windows XP (KB912812) and it failed. Then I was referred to running it
manually and then I got the KB912812 Setup Canceled error. Can someone
assist me in getting this update to successfully install?

Check the System Event log to see if there are any errors under Source
for Windows Update Agent. Also, check the Application Event log for
errors under Source for MsiInstaller.
Then check the KB912812.log located in the WINDOWS directory (folder).
Please post the relevant errors from the KBxxxxxx.log, and/or, the event
error. You can copy the Event errors by double clicking the error, then
by clicking on the file icon.
Paste them into your reply.

Where is the system event log and the applications event log located. Here
is the error that I got in the KB . . . log.

Right click My Computer on the Desktop or Start Menu, choose Manage.
Click the plus sign next to Event Viewer, click on Application.
Locate the error by the Source, double click on that error.
Right below the 2 arrows on the right there is an icon of two files.
Click on that icon to copy the error. Copy&paste it (them) into your reply.

Yes it is located at C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer.

IE7 was never installed. Should I install that?

Are there more than one partition/Hard Drives ? This error :

1.562: Unexpected Error While Executing Line 1 (
Test.IE7InstallBlock.Section ) of PreRequisite

1.562: Update.exe extended error code = 0xf00d

usually indicates either the presence of IE7 BETA, or, that Program
Files resides on another partition/HD.

Which antivirus software is installed ? Suggest you download the
Cumulative Update manually with the AV temp disabled.
Save it, do not run it with IE open. Close IE.
Next, clear the Temporary Inernet Files, Cookies, and History by using
Internet Options from within the Control Panel. All 3 are on the first
page, General.

Then boot to Safe Mode : http://snipurl.com/dmbp
Install the update from within Safe Mode.
Restart the system to normal Windows mode to complete the install.

REMEMBER to reenable the installed AV is you've temp disabled it.
