Download the two updates from the Windows Update Catalog :
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=8973
Click the " Find updates for Microsoft Windows operating systems "
link.
Scroll down to Windows Millenium Edition and click on it to highlight it.
Click the down arrow next to Advanced search options.
In the " Date posted to the Web " drop down window, set it to " Past 6
months ".
Uncheck all of the boxes except Critical Updates and Service Packs,
Advanced Security Updates, and Internet and Multimedia Updates.
Click the Search button.
Now click on the " Critical Updates and Service Packs (7) " link.
In the " Sort by " dropdown window set it to " Posted date ".
Click the Add button for :
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (KB912812)
Security Update for Windows Media Player 9 for Windows 98 and Windows ME
(KB911565)
Click the " Go to Download Basket " link towards the top of the page.
Click the Browse button and navigate to the Desktop. Save the updates to
there and then click the " Download Now " button.
NOTE: After the download is finished, close Internet Explorer.
Now install them one at a time, starting with KB911565, then install
KB912812. The system will need to be restarted now.
If either of the installs fail, suggest you boot to Safe Mode, and
attempt to install them from there :
