It appears that after installing KB912812 on a Windows 98 or ME system
with IE6, I am no longer able to install any downloadable ActiveX
controls (i.e the once that uses the 'codebase' feature of an html
object element), for example Yahoo Toolbar or Macromedia Flash Player.
I am not even getting the Authenticode prompt on those systems. I can
see that the actual .cab file IS downloaded, but nothing more.

This only happens on 9x systems with 912812 installed, not on any of
the NT based systems. Lowering IE security settings doesn't help
either. I am thinking this must be MS bug...

Any clues?

-Poul

Hi Poul,

I have same problem as you.
Can you solve your problem by KB917425?
I think KB917425 is NOT for 98 and Me...

I'm waiting for your reply.

Thank you

Neither of these articles seem to help for people using Windows 98 SE. I've
implimented the techniques described and it still doesn't work.

I still get this, and only on a 98 system...
