Hello to all. I am having problems with windows uopdate kb912812.
I have winxp home everthing up to date.ez antivirus and EZ firewall no
problems with either for the last 6 mos.they have been installed,Do not
believe i have a spyware prob or virus.

I will try to make it short.

In add remove programs kb912812 is installed

visiting windows update site and it appears dnloaded and ready to install

looking at my history it has been installed a lot of times. I have
uninstalled and reinstalled. It appears right now at the top with a green
check and the latest update [kb913580] was installed with no problem.

Belarc advisor says not installed or missing[red check mark]

ccleaner[appears in tools] says installed

I have changed no settings on my computer recently.

Not behind proxy--- behind router.

Event viewer=no errors

Internet explorer was behind proxy[tor + privoxy]when it was installed
initially along with any patches????

Like I said the last update was installed with no problem.

Updates are set to notify me but not dnld or install. Did not notify me on
last reboot, maybe because they are already downloaded??

Please reply.I think it is installed, but wonder why it is being detected by
windows update or belarc [which has the latest update applied to it--[I
think].

1. Download the update via
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...1-4ACCEBF72133
(Right-click on the link > Save as > Save to your desktop.

2. Uninstall "Security Update for Windows XP (KB912812)" via Add/Remove
Programs & reboot.

3. Double-click on the saved download to install the update.

4. Does Automatic Updates or Windows Update still offer the update now?

That seems to have done the trick. I did download the update directly and
install it once before though.
It may have been a different one although it was the exact same size. One
thing I did do differently this time was to to disable smartfix security
center so it did not load on startup. When I installed the one I downloaded
before I just disabled smartfix. I think it does its business on startup and
only disabling it may not fix what it has already done at startup. I am not
sure about that though.

I have enabled smartfix and I will see if it screws with it----rebooted with
smartfix protection enabled and windows update shows no critical high
priority updates found.

Anyway..... thanks loads. I really hate windows update problems.

YW & thanks for posting back.

While some users find that disabling their anti-virus application prior to
installing Windows Updates is necessary, few find they need to disable any
security tools.

That being said, I don't particularly like the looks of Smartfix Security
Center (http://www.defendgate.com/products/smartfix.html) myself. (I
wouldn't trust anything that's marketed at the suspicious sites as I find
here: http://tinyurl.com/pcyf5). Assuming you're still running the trial
version, I'd uninstall it ASAP, then see these pages for some recommended
alternatives (most of them free):

I am still using 4.4.5. I doubt I need it at all though. Seems that the
latest version is the problem. I have most of those other software installed.
Thanks for the tips."PA Bear" wrote:
