to download this troublesome update manually.

But what is troublesome about getting it from Windows Update?

thanks for the link.its not for me.its my friends computer ,she is having
problems .ive got to reformat her hard drive and reinstall xp.i just wanted
to get her the latest update.she has had no end of problems accessing the
windows update site and then downloads fail regularly,so i thought it easier
to show her how to manually get an update.

More generally, if you are using the NTx Automatic Updates feature
in its prompt mode, you can doubleclick on that icon (in the notification area)
then select the update you are interested in (e.g. KB913580), then click on
the more information link (e.g. http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=62071
which redirects to the same URL that Robin gave you.)
