Update KB917151 failed to install with error code 0x44D. I only have the 3
viewers for Word, Excel, and Powerpoint installed on my system, not the full
Office 2003. Do I really need this update? If not, how do I tell Microsoft
Update to forget about it?

Possibly, yes.

Please post C:\WINDOWS\KB917151.log to a followup

Thanks for the suggestion, but the file C:\WINDOWS\KB917151.log does not
exist. I see many other log files, but none for KB917151.

Sorry, the file does not exist with that name - still looking to see if the
Office updates leave a log behind them.

The problem is solved, but I'm not sure how.

As suggested in another thread, I removed the Excel Viewer, rebooted, then
downloaded and installed a fresh copy of the Excel Viewer. That didn't solve
the problem. Next I removed update KB917346, a security update for the Word
Viewer. I ran Microsoft Update, and both KB917346 and KB917151 installed.
KB917151 seems to have a lot of dependency problems.
