KB917734 Continued

My original thread, below, seems to be falling down the list...I'm still
looking for a way to stop being offered KB917734. Any ideas?

I've followed your instructions, waited a couple of days and KB917734 is
being offered again...I also can't get rid of that little badge telling me
it's waiting to be installed...How can I stop this from being offered over
and over again...(?)...

I saw your post in the original thread, no need to start another one.
Go to Start > Run > copy&paste this into the Open: field -

c:\windows\inf\unregmp2.exe /UpdateWMP

Click OK
( the above line is dependent on WINDOWS being installed to the C:\
drive. Change the drive letter if your systems lay out is different )
This will reinstall WMP.

Restart the system afterwards and see if the update will install now.

I successfully reinstalled WMP as you directed and, once again, reinstalled
an already downloaded KB917734, which SEEMED to be already waiting in the
wings...Perhaps from an earlier offering.(?)

To MowGreen - I need a clarification on something here. You said, "Restart
the system afterwards and see if the update will install now."

It SOUNDS as if you are under the impression that I've had trouble
installing KB917734.(?) I just want to be sure that you understand that this
is NOT the case.

My problem has been that it DOES and ALWAYS HAS installed successfully and
then is RE-OFFERED a day or so later. Each time it installs successfully as
proved by it's many listings in "Add or Remove Programs" AND it's many
"successfully" installed listings in my Microsoft Update's "Review Update
History"...

My problem is that it keeps getting re-offered...NOT that it won't install.

Anyway, I'm now waiting to see if it will once again be re-offered...(?)

I've understood the issue from the start. By reinstalling WMP and then
installing the update, hopefully, it will not be reoffered.

Not Yet..It sometimes takes several days, or more, for it to show up again...
I'm not sure what to do if this thread falls back a bunch of pages..Will you

It's now been about a week, I've NOT been offered KB917734 again...Other
updates have come through fine. So far, it appears that reinstalling WMP via
the "unregmp2.exe" command has solved the continual re-offer problem...(?)...

OOOPS!!! I spoke too soon! KB917734's being offered again!...

I do want to mention that I did a complete Internet History, etc., cleanup,
and disk cleanup. Is it possible that this caused part of the problem?...

Anyway, during my search for help on this matter, the folks at Microsoft
Help have emailed a couple of proceedures which I'm going to give a try.

I try to be back in a couple of weeks, perhaps in a new thread(?) with any
new results to this KB917734 predicament.
