KB918439 Causes iexplorer Process to Run

After installing update KB918439, the cpu load went to 49% with
nothing running. Task Manager indicated that iexplorer was running a
process without any visual indication (no window or icon). It seems
to run when a DOS window is in use and continues when all windows
and Taskbar apps are closed. No indication could be found about what
the process is doing but it takes a lot of cpu bandwidth. Removing
KB918439 solves the problem.

This problem is not apparent unless someone should notice the cpu
running slow or getting hotter than normal. Has anyone found this
problem?

Are you quite sure this PC is free of all malware?

What version of Windows is this?

Yes, 2 virus scanners and 3 spyware scanners were used to be sure
since, as you suspected, this was my first conclusion. Windows XP
Pro SP2, all updates. It still could be a conflict between a program
or driver on my computer and the Windows update change but all works
fine after removing the update.
