This is the second time Microsoft has issued a security update that renders
ART files unusable. Netscape users or thoes of us that have extensive
graphic files with ART format files saved are affected. Microsoft answered
that the problem is not theirs. Netscape staes to remove the update
(918899). No solution here to the security issues

Where in MS06-022.mspx are *.ART files addressed? or am I not understanding
"Pardon?" ART Files are a Netscape file opened by IE. My problem with the
disabling of this type file is: all saved graphics files in that format are
rendered un-openable by this update. Microsoft has informed me that it is
not their problem, and Netscape seys "remove the security update" This, of
course doesn't solve the security issue.

| Microsoft Security Bulletin MS06-022
| Vulnerability in ART Image Rendering Could Allow Remote Code
| Execution (918439)

That's a mail you've received or is that "info" anywhere available?

I agree, 918439 addressed ART files and an undescribed security issue. That
was the one of two "disableing" ART file updates from MS. 918899 covers the
earlier 918439 update and others.
But simply put, are we now supposed to dismiss ART files as an obsolete
format?
I was looking for possible solutions.

Nope. KB918899 covers all previous Cumulative Securtiy Updates but
*not* KB918439.

Well, that has been the case for many years already outside AOL land,
if you'ld ask me. If you fee you need to contact MS directly, feel
free to open a call with MS support.
