I'm having a similar problem. The difference is I can't get KB919893,
KB919946, KB920291, KB920296, KB920684, and KB920976 to install. The error I
get is Code 800705B4.

0x800705B4 - means timed out
WU_E_MSI_WRONG_VERSION = 0x80241001

Suggestions: download the latest WI and install it.

Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable (v2)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Make sure that nothing is blocking your access to WU like a firewall etc.

That's a trust category code.

That's a general error category code which I have seen
for one case associated with regsvr32 /i initpki.dll
(at least in XPsp2.)

Vista is too secure? <eg>

Otherwise look for the context of those codes in the install logs.

BTW be aware that you are posting to a common newsgroup
which is still used mainly by non-Vista posters. You may get
a better discussion of this symptom in a Vista-only newsgroup.
Therefore, for your convenience I am adding a crosspost to the
Vista General NG.

Usually it is assumed that that code is an indication that the
%windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Download directory is corrupt.

<title>You receive a &quot;0x80070002&quot; or &quot;0x80070003&quot;
error code after you download an update from Windows Update,
from Microsoft Update, or from Windows Server Update Services</title>
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=910336

(Google web search for
0x80070002 "Windows Update" site:microsoft.com
)

Oh wow... I didn't realize that the repair recommendation
had become so blunt. E.g. it is still saying

<quote>
Remove the download directory.
</quote>

but then its suggested implementation of that instruction
results in the entire AU database being deleted as if there
was some much more serious symptom being dealt with.

Actually I suppose completely deleting it will be a good thing
to do for your case with Vista anyway. E.g. you wouldn't want
any old history confusing WU's reports of your Vista's updates status.

So, does Vista have that directory structure? <eg>

BTW did you do a clean install for Vista or an upgrade?
For the latter my guess would be that might have allowed
old, possibly incompatible, data to have still been present
the first time you used WU or AU under the new OS.

HTH

Robert
