KB921596 do not install...

I repeately receives an update KB921596 ... who do not install .. "Office
2002/XP KB921596: Beveiligingsupdate voor Microsoft Office XP " Mislukt =
Error.
If I click on this RED cross error ==> Installatie is mislukt
Foutcode: 0x57A
Probeer de update nogmaals te installeren
Meaning: Installation not sussesfull ErrorCode: 0x57A .. Try to reinstall ..
I als tries a manual update ... this is also not succesfull .. there the
error message is "cannot find the expected product version on your system (in
Dutch: kan de verwachte product versie niet vinden op het systeem).
Any ideas how to solve this?? Any help would be appreciates.
I am running WinXP Home NL - SP3 with all updates (except KB921506 here in
error..) So the Dutch version of WinXP.

1. Download the update from this link (SAVE it to your desktop, don't RUN
it):
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...b-c47331d30e79

2. Insert your Office XP CD (if available) into the appropriate drive bay.

3. Double-click on the saved file to install the update; follow all prompts.

Thanks PA Bear. Whith the NLD version of this KB (and CD Office XP in the
drive) .. same error. Then I tried to download the ENU version (as in your
link) Installation starts but I get an error: "Error 1402 – Setup cannot open
the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\giffile\shell\ Open\ddeexec.
Verify that you have sufficient permissions to access the registry…."
I am loged-on as administrator ..
What can I do ???

The ENU version should not install to a Dutch version, Adelin.
IF the issue were Permissions in the registry than the error message
should also show up when applying officexp-KB921596-FullFile-NLD.exe, too.

First, show hidden files, folders, and system files:

Then go to Start > Run > type in %temp% and click OK
Open the OHotfix subfolder
The most recent Office installation log [ OHotfix(000xx).log, the last 2
numbers indicate how many installation logs are present ] should be the
very last one. You may have to open several to locate the relevant log.
When you find which one it is check to see if the patch is 'needed'.
It looks similar to this:

I have the exact same situation. I inserted my Office XP Pro CD and
downloaded the file, saving to desktop. I ran the file with the CD in the
tray and received Error 1402. Setup cannot open the registry key. When I
searched for the indicated registry sub key I only got as far as \Classes
because I found no "giffile." What do I do now? BTW, I have run a registry
cleaner Glary Registry Repair and I have run CCleaner. I have never run
Windows Cleanup so far as I know. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Run an Office Repair.

Hi Mowgreen,
Checked the different logfiles .. onces the tell me that update is nog
needed, another time it reflects dat de Update is in error...
Therefore I runed an Office Repair.
After completing this repair I retryed to install the update... result the
same error..

A supplementair info: I orriginally installed "MS Office XP Pro with
Frontapage" and to obtain the Dutch interface (my motherlanguage) I installed
from the CD2 (MS Office Pro NL Language pack) the Dutch = 1043 language.
Maybe this has sommething to do with the problem ??

From now on I remark also that the "Update available icon" in the System
area diappeared .. ??

I am running Win XP Home NL SP3 with all updates (except KB921596 :-))..

On my last Power-down I got the message "do not power-off ... Downloaded
Update is installing 1 of 1.. But after checking the installed updates the
KB921596 is still not installed and remains in error.

PA Bear and MowGreen,
Till now I did not run Windows Installer Cleanup utility ... I am a little
bis afraid to perform this ...

And YES .. I run sometimes "RegSupeme 1.3" to clean my Windows Registers..
Could this be the cause of my problem ??

Do NOT run Windows Installer Cleanup utility! It was just a question!

Your use of RegSupreme may have caused this problem. Think your Registry
needs "cleaning" or "repairing"? Read
http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=28099 and draw your own conclusions.

I'd recommend that you either do an Office Repair or uninstall/reinstall
Office XP/2002.
