If anyone knows a fix for this it would be greatly appreciated. I have had to
hide it on my wife's computer or it gives the blue screen of death and starts
doing a memory dump.

Since this is a "fix" for downloading it seems rather hilarious that it
crashes the machine. This machine has not had any history of such problems. I
have been able to install all other recent updates by deselecting this one.

The machine is a Dell Dimension 4550 with Pentium 4 CPU running at 2 GHz
with 512 MB of RAM. The Video Card came with the machine and is an NVIDIA
GeForce4 MX 420. It is running XP Professional, SP2.

There *may* be a minifilter that is not playing nice with the updates
installation. To view minifilters:

Might be the Nvidia, might also be Security software ... which
antivirus/security programs are installed ?

I have the exact same problem with a similar setup, Windows XP SP 2 on a P4
(2Ghz) processor, 512 MB's of DDR2 RAM, and a NVIDIA
GeForce4 MX 400. I have absolutely no other programs/processes running other
than the default Windows XP services, Internet Explorer of course and that's
it. I have also tried to install this update without Internet Explorer
(Windows updates) by manually downloading just this update and running it
from the Desktop, same issue (it instantly crashes my PC causing it to
instantly reboot with a split second of blue screen).

Travis,

If it's a Dell then visit their website to see if there is an update for
the GeForce4 MX400. If not, visit the Nvidia site or whomever
manufactured the PC.
The two things in common with the OP's system is the Processor and the
video adapter is an NVidia.
