I have WinXP Pro SP2.

1) Installing via Automatic Updates

KB923694 keeps popping up in my Automatic Updates notifications.
I installed it and Automatic Updates says that it was successfully
installed.
When I check my Control Panel's Add or Remove Programs list, KB923694 is not
listed.

2) Installing via Microsoft Updates

When I check "Review your update history" on the online Microsoft Update
webpage, I have several entries (more than 5) saying that KB923694 was
successfully installed from Automatic Updates.
When the online Microsoft Update checks for updates for my compu, it doesn't
find KB923694 as needing to be installed.

3) Installing by downloading from MS Download Center

I downloaded KB923694 from here
(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en)
and then installed it.
KB923694 still didn't show up in my Add or Remove Programs list.

I don't know which parts of the KB923694.log I'm supposed to post here so I
just chose the lines that have the word "error" or "failed" in them:
5.469: DoInstallation: CleanPFR failed: 0x2
5.703: KB923694 Setup encountered an error: The update.ver file is not
correct.
5.719: KB923694 Setup encountered an error: The update.ver file is not
correct.
5.750: KB923694 Setup encountered an error: The update.ver file is not
correct.

The *last* 40-50 lines please.
Have you rebooted Windows in the meantime?
Cleared the \Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder?

Bye,
Freudi

I did several reboots yesterday when I was trying to install it.

I haven't cleared the \Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder. I'll
do that now, reboot, then see if KB923694 will install.

Meanwhile, here's the most recent sessio in the KB923694.log file:

Ehm, in the meantime the hint, that KB923694 has been replaced by KB929123
(MS07-034) in the meantime (June 12th 2007). Manual download link for KB929123:

After clearing the \Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder and
rebooting, I re-installed KB923694 through Automatic Updates. It said it
installed successfully. Also saw another "successful installation" entry
in the online "Review your update history." But, the Hotfix is not listed
in my Add or Remove Programs list.

When I tried to check for updates in the online Microsoft Update page, I got
this error message:
The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are
trying to view .... Error number 0x80072EFD...

I'll try installing KB929123 that you mentioned below. I think I had a
problem with this one before too but KB929123 is not being listed by
Automatic Updates or Microsoft Updates as needing to be installed.

I installed KB929123 from the manual download and then rebooted.
I don't see this Hotfix listed in Add or Remove Programs.

KB923694 shouldn't be offered via Auto/Windows/Microsoft Update anyway -
and isn't here.

> But, the Hotfix is not listed in my Add or Remove Programs list.

With the "Show Updates" option activated me thinks. Can you find
KB929123 there?

Oh, and looking at the headers of your posting, you have a "nice" mix
of your OE between KB923694 and KB929123:

| X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.3028

That's msoe.dll included in KB923694.

| X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2900.3138

And that's the file version of inetcomm.dll included in KB929123.

Tried to install KB923694 again, this time from the manual download.
I got a successful installation message.
KB923694 didn't appear in my Add or Remove Programs list.
