KB923723 repeatedly trying to install

Windows Update (both automatic and manual via IE->Tools->Windows
Update) keeps deciding that I need KB923723. When I tell it to
install, the installer window pops up and eventually tells me that the
patch was successfully installed. 5 or 10 minutes later, the gold
shield "Updates are ready" appears in the tool bar and tells me that I
need KB923723. I thought Microsoft tested this stuff before releasing
it -- perhaps I'm being naive.

I'm running Windows XP SP2. I've tried installing it multiple times,
I've tried restarting afterwards, nothing helps. Heres c:\Windows

Navigate to the WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder
Delete ALL contents

Download the update from here and SAVE it to the Desktop:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Restart the system. Do NOT open ANY programs or browsers.
Click Start > Run > click the Browse button and point it to the
downloaded file on the Desktop,
StepByStepInteractiveTraining-KB923723-x86-ENU.exe

Click Open, then OK
Did that get it installed ?

I did exactly what you recommended, but the yellow shield still pops up and
tells me updates are ready to install. Each time it "updates successfully".

I too have been having this problem for days now. I wish MS would get on the
stick and offer a fix. Nothing I have tried seems to work.

I am also having the problem (see later post) Kaspersky says file infected
with malware. I will override it if can get assurance is OK.

Hey, Microsoft now acknowledges that there is an issue with this
hotfix.
Maybe by next "Patch Tuesday" they will have a more robust hotfix.
