My wife is running XP SP2 with Automatic Updates turned on. I find that over
the last two months, the above update shows as installed well over 50 times.
Yet, within minutes the yellow shield icon will again appear showing the need
for this same update.

Can anyone provide a clue on how to tell this machine this update is in fact
installed?
Thanks for any advice!
Dan

Hm, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923723/en-us and the "Known issue"
section there. Check the file version of the "lrun32.exe" on the system.

Thanks for the inputs!

However, a perusal of the directory reveals the following:
1. We do not have Interactive training instllalled at al, nor does she use it
2. We do not have the referenced security update (923723) shown as installed
3. The version of Lrun32.exe we have is 3.6.0.112

Can I just delete lrun32.exe and be done with it?

Then "Interactive Training" has been installed once.

I would rename it first (to lrun32.OLD for example).

That did it, but only after the following steps:
1. Turned off automatic update
2. Renamed (3) files to "old": Lrun.exe, Orun.exe and Mrun.exe
3. Rebooted
4. Turned Automatic Update back on.

Thank you for your help. It was very much appreciated!!!

CORRECTION: The below did NOT work. All files are renamed but automatic
update is right back with the same update. Any other possible steps that you
might suggest?

Hm, you may wanna have a look into the registry, the heart, soule and brain
of Windows whether the following registry key exists:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Interactive Training

*Don't* remove the key yet, but export it into a REG file and post the
contents of it here in your next reply.

Forgive this late response, I've been gone for a few days. Yes, the computer
does have the key "Microsoft Interactive Training" and I was able to export
that key as a .reg file, however, I simply don't know how to post it's
contents here. I hate to add further complications and very much appreciate
your help.

Hm, right click the REG file and choose "Edit" from the context menu.
Mark & copy the whole content and paste it into your answer.

Thanks once more! I had seen that "edit', but when I clicked it and the
'run' dialogue came up, as a newbie I was afraid to 'run it'. This time I did
and here is the result:
