I'm replying to my own post because this is ridiculous. I scrapped my OS,
restarted from factory XP settings (Acer's settings) I see 74 updates at
update.microsoft.com, download them all, install them. I said no to Internet
Explorer 7, because I don't want it. KB923789 failed again. Now the SAME
EXACT ERROR HAS OCCURRED AGAIN. I CAN AGAIN NO LONGER DOWNLOAD UPDATES.
Found previous post with similar problem. Got myself back onto
update.microsoft.com by re-registering a dll file:
Typed at command line (Run): regsvr32 msxml3.dll
Haven't resolved KB923789, moving on for now.
