I've narrowed to KB924191 a problem with an application which uses msxml3.dll.

That software upon being started notifies that IE6 needs to be installed.
The developer tells me that his application uses msxml3.dll (which is a
component his app borrows from IE6.)

My setup is Win2K SP4. The Windows Updater says only KB924191 needs to be
installed, no others.

Therefore, I can't install KB924191.

Hi liam,

I dont have good news for you. We also have problem with KB924191. Our web
services client written in C++ using ATL server components which use msxml3
for parsing responses of web services is not working anymore.

Please if you found a solution for this problem appart from unistalling
KB924191 let me know.

Thanks
Roman

That KB article mentions that an incorrect version was originally provided.
Are you sure you have the right version? E.g. is the kill bit being set
correctly? Have you checked which versions of the XML functions
your program is really getting? Perhaps it is finding one with the kill
bit set?

I would try monitoring the client with RegMon and FileMon for more clues
and clarification about what is really happening.

Good luck
