Could be. Is your AV Norton? What I do, which may be a bit anal, is
first do a clean up with Crap Cleaner and then with the XP clean up. I
then do a defrag followed by a reboot and then I set a System Restore
Point in case the updates go askew. Then I disable my Avast AV and go to
Windows Update and get the updates.
