KB925486 failure on install

Hi there - I've found various tips to get this patch to install but no
luck yet.

What I have tried (found in answers by MowGreen [MVP] )

Emptied these folders:
WINDOWS\Software Distribution\Downloads
WINDOWS\Software Distribution\EventCache

Ran WU again (only find the KB925486 update as being required),
downloads, fails.
Next did the above again + this time emptied:
WINDOWS\Software Distribution\DataStore
No improvement.

Then I went to the MS06-055 page and downloaded the SP2 update
directly. When I ran it it stopped with an error saying it could not
find the "VGX" folder - but I copied the "missing" path into Windows
Explorer and the folder+file is there.

Other: when the notice was first announced, I used Group Policy
(Win2003) to block it. When the fix came out, I re-enabled for a week+
so the PCs would get the original setting. Now I have remove dthose GP
objects entirely. No change at any point in that process (and this is
not affected all my PCs, just a handful).

Here is a log of the two most recent failures - hoping it will point to
something.
Any tips would be great - thanks.

Dave,

Is System Restore disabled ? Here's a snippet of the KB925486.log from
my system compared to the relevant section of the log you posted -

My System -

LoadFileQueues: UpdSpGetSourceFileLocation for halacpi.dll failed:
0xe0000102
System Restore Point set.
Copied file: D:\WINDOWS\system32\spmsg.dll

Your system -

LoadFileQueues: UpdSpGetSourceFileLocation for halacpi.dll
failed: 0xe0000102
ArchiveFileForUninstall:ArchiveSingleFile Cancelled
DoInstallation:UpdSpCommitFileQueue for FileQueue Failed: 0x4c7

There is no "System Restore Point set." present in the log from your
system? May be that's why the update will not install.

No luck I'm afraid - it's showing max' at 12%, and C: (the only drive)
is diplayed as "Monitoring".

Is there a manual way to install this? Is it replacing a single .dll,
or is there more to it? WU is not working because of the failure of
this update but I'd rather not skip it unless there is a follow-up
patch that does the same thing.
