As of today, update 927891 is being pushed as a priority (non-security)
update on Microsoft Update.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927891 for more info.

This is the first half of the fix for the 100% svchost.exe issue, and
various other update failures, time-outs etc in Microsoft Update and/or
Automatic Update.

Yup, and there's a version of KB927891 for Windows 2000 now too,
available at least via DownloadCenter:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Freudi

Hi Freudi... you've helped me before.. Can you help again? I installed the
KB927891 and then again I couldn't get online.. So, I uninstalled and then
rebooted and closed my McAfee and installed and rebooted, but I still cannot
get online with KB927891 installed

What can I do?

Hi PA Bear.... nope but that is the issue... So, just so I'm clear.. I don't
need this update, but if I install it, then when do I run the "type: netsh
winsock reset "

Example: Turn off McAfee, install KB927891, reboot. Cmd "type: netsh
winsock reset " reboot, or do I not have to reboot twice?

Thanks

CD

Me thinks there's no relation between KB927891 and not getting
online whatsoever. KB927891 includes a msi.dll only and that's
not one of the components used to get online.

Type "netsh winsock reset" under "Run" in the Start menu and reboot
Windows afterwards. You're on Windows XP SP2, aren't you?

Bye,
Freudi

You may not have to reboot after installing KB927891. Simply follow
the advice in the windows popping up after you've installed the
update. And yes, you have to reboot after the "netsh winsock reset"
command.

Bye,
Freudi (who still assumes you're on Windows XP SP2)

Hi... Freudi

I am on XP Sp2 home.... and behind a router ... The install asks that I
reboot so I'll have to reboot twice..

I hear you Freudi, but that's what happens... Install this
update...reboot...no online access..

Uninstall update, reboot, and I'm online again..

Go figure

CD

Right. Did you run "netsh winsock reset" already?

Bye,
Freudi
