Franck,
This is the advice I was given regarding the 2 files I couldn't install. I
had tried to manually install them on a previous occasion without success.
So I just followed the link he gave me and downloaded just the KB927978 file
again and followed his instructions about restarting, removing, restarting,
installing and restarting - and it worked.
One thing I found was that whilst the updates were constantly being offered,
no other updates were. So, once installed, I then found I had a dozen or so
new ones to do.
Anyway here is the advice from MowGreen:
There is NO need to install KB925672. KB927978 supercedes it.
Are either of the updates listed in Add/Remove Programs in the Control
Panel ? [Make sure that the 'Show updates' box is checked at the top]
Did you download KB927978 manually, save it, and then attempt to install
it ?

If not suggest you attempt that. When you do, ***make sure*** that the
system is RESTARTED PRIOR to attempting to install it.
If 3 options are presented, Modify/Repair/Remove, choose Remove.
If you are prompted to, restart the system.
If not, run msxml4-KB927978-enu.exe once more and it *should* install.
If yes, then restart and then run msxml4-KB927978-enu.exe

Dear MowGreen,
Thank you! I followed your instructions to the letter and, although I
cannot find the KB927978 listed as installed on my PC, Windows update now no
longer tries to offer it as one I should download. KB 925672 is also no
longer offered, so it looks as if you have solved my problem.
Many thanks once again.
