Hello.
I'm using W2k SP4 plus tons of post-SP4 patches.
Each time I visit Microsoft Update, I'm offered the High Priority update
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (KB928090)
However, this is already installed! I followed the instructions here
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../ms07-016.mspx
under the title "Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 on Windows 2000 Service
Pack 4 and on Small Business Server 2000" to manually check the patch
succeeded by reviewing each file version in the long list of changed files.
The exact size matches, the exact version matches, but I found the
"modified" timestamp in my computer is 9 hours less than the stated
timestamp in msg07-016.mspx; for example, wininet.dll is 2-Jan-2007 15:52
according to MS but 2-Jan-2007 8:52:24 on my system and this offset is
consistent for all files in this patch.
I ran MBSA 2.1 and to my amusement, it says that the patch is not installed,
too.
Since I had downloaded the patch manually, I tried to run it again and you
guess, it says it's already installed.
Hence, I'm left with WindowsUpdate and MBSA that claim I have a security
problem because KB928090 is not installed but a careful manual check and the
patch executable itself indicate that it's indeed installed.
Any clues?
Thanks.
C.
