I think you have the right idea.
And I think that PA Bear is correct when he recommends to many people here
about having them open up a ticket for free support from Microsoft when
these kinds of issues arise.
Perhaps when Microsoft's support reps become swamped with thousand of emails
requesting FREE support to which, according to Microsoft's own terms and
conditions they are entitled, Microsoft will begin to quality check some of
these pieces of junk 'fixes' that are being foisted on their customers
BEFORE they appear on the Windows Updates webpage.
