KB929300 error 2711

Having problems trying to install KB929300 after sucessfully installing
KB110806. The progress bar shows that all the files were successfully
extracted but on installation the progress bar stops at approx 50%
completion. The Event Viewer has this error listing:

Event ID: 10005

Can anyone point me to how I can rectify this problem so that I can
successfully install the .NET 3.0 SP1 update?

I am running WinXP Professional. I have all the latest updates installed. I
have stopped all apps requiring .NET support from running prior to starting
this update.

Did you try to install the Framework 3.0 SP1 manually and see what happens?

Hi Augusto...

In answer to your question, I tried to install it manually after the
automatic update failed. That's when I got the Error 2711. I'm now wondering
whether I should try to install this update in Safe mode!!

I got the same error code (2711) when trying to install .Net 3.0 SP 1 after
it stalled out on installation on the first install. I downloaded this from
Microsoft download center.
I achieved a successfull reinstall when I did a repair on .Net 3.0 through
accessing the .Net 3.0 app. in add or remove programs in control panel.
Select change and then do a repair. After repair is complete do a restart.
Then do a reinstall of the .Net 3.0 service pack 1 application.

I achieved a successfull install this way.

Hi RichieAQ... and thnx for your suggestion. I didn't think of doing a repair
on the .NET installation and was just going to do a clean install (in fact I
downloaded all the .NET redistributable packages yesterday!). I'll give your
suggestion a try and let you know how it went. Once again, thnx for your
valuable input.

Just wanted to let you know that your suggestion worked!! I tried the repair
option on .NET 3.0, then installed SP1... no problems!
