I cannot install updates KB929338, KB890830. I have tried numerous times and
just tried it with a manual scheme recommended on this site. I received: Copy
Error: "Set up cannot copy the file ntkrnlpa.exe Ensure that location
specified below is correct." I did a "search" for ntkrnlpa.exe and found it
in different locations. I'm not a pro, any advice is much appreciated.

Seems to be problem with user rights for accessing the folder.
Have you "played" arround with NTFS user rights? Do you have
Administrator rights?

I'm the sole user of my pc. I know nothing about administrator rights. It
seems that ntkrlnpa.exe not only showed up with this problem but also when I
ran a "defrag" The report can back after the process which stated it could
not defrag it. (I'm don't remember the actual wording of the report.)

In this case please start a new thread in the Windows XP newsgroup(s).
It "may" be helpfull for the guys and girls over there, which programs
are running in the background.

Bye,
Freudi

Freudi,

I don't understand your message. You say that "guys and gals over there,
which program is running in the background." Open a new thread? Am I not in
the proper place to ask about updates?

Read: Post a new message to the Windows XP newsgroup and provide
more information over there.

> Am I not in the proper place to ask about updates?

You are but your system seems to have NTFS access issues which are
causing the update installation problems (and the one running defrag)
and since you've stated that you're not familiar with those, asking
for support in the Windows XP newsgroup is the best thing to do.

Good luck,
Freudi

Freudi,
Thank you for your advice. What Newsgroup should I go to? Would "Windows XP
Support & Help" be appropriate?

Thanks again.

No. That is supposed to be used for problems or discussion about
Windows XP Help and Support. E.g. press Win-F1 and if you have
problems after that post there. ; )

You have trimmed too much of the thread for this one to be likely
to attract help in another newsgroup. Try switching to the newsgroup
that I am cross-posting to and start a new thread with a complete
description of your symptoms there.

FollowUp-To set to XP P&M

Good luck

Thanks Robert,
Hi Cat,
You may have a hardware, software or even a virus infection?.
Hardware like a bad PUS or a bad RAM, a virus as below mentioned on F-secure
link.
I will run a scan for malwares and Viruses from a vendor on line scan and
see what will come up and run a scan in safe mode and normal mode with
whatever protection software you have.
Do you have Nvidia Video card?.
You may have the fagot virus, since you can't even install the removal tool
from MS:
http://www.f-secure.com/v-descs/fagot.shtml
Operating System Throttling Does Not Work
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326863
Windows may not respond when you try to load a registry hive
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836435
You receive the "Access is denied" error message when you run a 16-bit
program on Windows 2000 SP3 or on Windows 2000 SP4
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/867787
Driver may not be loaded with the /3GB switch
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/319043

Please read the links above but don't apply the host fix, leave till last
and post back with more info about what you want to apply these two Security
updates.
Also write back with more info about your Operating system, software
installed, error messages on the screen and from the event Viewer ( exact
wording please).
HTH.
Let us know.

I have XP Pro - the only user of my PC. I run Spybot and Ad Aware and have no
problems re: viruses, etc. I use BellSouth DSL. My problem is installing two
updates, KB929338, KB890830. The error message received states: " Copy Error:
"Set up cannot copy the file ntkrnlpa.exe Ensure that location specified
below is correct, or change it and insert "Windows XP System Files" in the
drive you specify." I ran a "Search" for ntkrnlpa.exe and found it in 3 or 4
places. Additionally, I ran a defrag and at the end of the process received a
message that it can't defrag 2 fragments at 2mb fragments: ntkrnlpa.exe. My
computer expertise is limited and I fear making any changes that come close
to registry changes. I am not receiving any other error messages nor am I
having operational problems. Any help is appreciated. Please remember that I
am not a pro.
