The latest Windows XP update #KB929338 will install while online, but then
before shutting down my PC and turning it off, the update still pops up
saying it will install the update while shutting down. How do I fix this
problem?!

Thank You Very Much!

Try downloading the update manually via DownloadCenter:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...b-dc23923d09e7

*Save* the file to a folder your harddisk (let me call it "C:\Downloads"),
do *not* execute it from within your browser.

Afterwards type the following under "Run" in the Start menu:
"C:\Downloads\WindowsXP-KB929338-x86-ENU.exe" /o

The parameter "/o" (o like overwriteOEM) should do the trick for you.

Hi Ottmar,

Not sure if there is supposes to be a space in between C: \Downloads and
exe. /o. What happens when clicking Run and typing the text, the C: drive
folder opens and that's all that happens. Tried downloading the file from
inside the folder which didn't seem to make a difference. What didn't I do?

Thanks,

No space, copy and paste the whole line in the dialog box under Start/Run
"C:\Downloads\WindowsXP-KB929338-x86-ENU.exe" /o

The only space is between the ...exe" /o
This is assuming you followed instructions and saved the file to C:\downloads

Sorry, it took a few minutes for the update to register. The problem is now
fixed thanks to you all.
I appreciate it. Thanks again.
