I rarely shut my pc off; I normally log off windows to the welcome screen. I
have my monitor set to shut off after 30 minutes. I've not had any problems
with this until recently I entered my password one morning, and got the
message " Loading your personal settings" as usual, the cursor displays
hourglass so I know it's "busy", then suddenly, the screen kind of blinks
momentarily, the hour glass is gone, and I have to reenter my password. This
time it actually logs on to my desktop. I check my Event Viewer and under
Applications Is the following error: Event Type: Error Event Source:
EventSystem Event Category: (50) Event ID: 4614 Date: 1/13/2007 Time:
5:43:39 PM User: N/A Computer: OWNER-381C340C5 Description: The COM+ Event
System detected an inconsistency in its internal state. The assertion
"GetLastError() == 122L" failed at line 201 of

Product Support Services to report this error. For more information, see
Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
Clicking on the "Help and Support" link results in the Normal message: We're
sorry; there is no additional information about this issue".
Anyway, if I reboot and log on, I have no problem. I, however, do not want
to be forced to either shut down or reboot my pc every time I want to log on.
I have definitely traced this to KB929969. When I uninstall 929969, the
problem disappears. As son as I install 929969, the problem re-appears. I
have tried both versions of 929969, with the same results. Anyone have a
clue? I hate to leave a "critical" issue unpatched. One last question. Why is
there different versions of 929969? The one for IE7 is 761 KB, and the one
for XP SP2 is 784 KB.
Please help, this is driving me batty!
