Right! I have been directing my Temporary Internet Files to D:\Temporary
Internet Files since Windows95 days. In all those years I have never had
problems. Anything that causes a great deal of fragmentation I keep off of
the system partition. I also have My Documents stored on D:\, along with all
the subfolders. This I also share with Vista. No problems what-so-ever for
12 years now.
I dual boot and applied KB931768 to both Vista and WinXP. I ran into
problems with both systems. In Vista it seems to be a program
incompatibility that I am slowly working my way through. I went back to a
clean "base" image with no extras installed. I applied the updates and have
not had the problems that I initially saw. I am now slowly installing my
desired programs - testing after each program install - in an attempt to
find out what 3rd party program was causing the interaction. I can, at this
time, say that the install of Office 2007 Ultimate or Visio 2007
Professional is not causing the undesirable interaction.
I have not yet begun to work on my XP installation.
In both installations I also use a common D:\Temporary Internet Files. It
causes no problem in Vista. We'll see when I get back into Windows XP.
