How to make a good newsgroup post:
http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm

Check the msxml4-KB936181-enu.LOG located in WINDOWS or, just copy and
paste it into your reply.
Than 'anyone' can help you get it installed.

Thanks, it did solve the problem.

Note:

In Step 2 the system would not let me delete either of the 2 Msxml4.dll
files. It did not seem to matter. Step 1 and 3 seemed to have been
sufficient as I have not been offered kb 936181 again.

I too have the same problem. I have followed the article and nothing seems to
help. I do not want to screw up my computer. When I followed the article's
solutiuons it ended up having me update/install Office XP Service Pack 3....I
have Vista...when it goes to install it tells me that the file I need is on a
Disc and to insert it and continue...what's that all about? Someone please
help...i'm tired of seeing these updates....

I also want to say that when I followed this article I had clicked on
something else that was showing me that that solution may help and that's
when it took me to Updates and had me update this file as well as the
KB936181....

Thank-you for your help but that did not work. I turned off auto update. and
when I went to uninstall KB936181 it was not there. So I assumed that I was
good to go in manually installing it. I did so and got the following message:
"Error opening installation log file. Verify that the specified log file
location exists and is writeable." What does that mean and what else can I do
to fix this? Also, the updates also tell me to update Office XP Service Pack
3. When I did that it was almost done and then it said that the file I needed
was on a disk to insert it...this apparently happened when I tried following
someone elses suggestions. Please help! Thanks!

I have this very same problem.

I have uninstalled the "KB936181 Update" and the "MSMXL 4.0 SP2", then I
downloaded both files and tried to install them manually. the MSMXL 4.0 SP@
installs without any problem, but when I try to manually install the KB936181
Update, I get the massage I too get the error message: "Error opening
installation log file. Verify that the specified log file location exists and
is writable."
