I did all of the monthly "high priority" installs today and when I got back
on my PC a bit ago, I got another notice of updates needing to be installed.
I selected Windows Update and the above two said they needed to be installed.
They are in my "history" file as "succeeded" and also in my control panel as
"installed".
What's up with this ??

There is a final stage of update during the boot which is not documented
in any log which is just assumed to occur. I suspect that it can be blocked
by users' third-party security packages unless they are uninstalled or at least
disabled (e.g. not just stopped while the executable of the update is run during
the install phase of the update.)

I don't have my MicroSoft Update feature set to "Auto", so for a couple of
days, everytime I would boot up, I would get the notification that there were
updates ready for me. They were always the same two. Then the notification
morphed to just show "one" update that was ready and finally after about 4 or
5 days, the notifications just stopped. I did nothing, so who knows what
went on for the "phony" notifications to stop; but they did ??
I use to have the same problem with the "Genuine MicroSoft Update". I had
the exact update number installed on my PC and, would every now and then, get
a notification that I needed to install it "again". I just ignored it and
eventually, it stopped. Just more MS, BS !!
I wouldn't set my update selection to "auto" for all the tea in China.

These are new symptoms? E.g. no longer discussing about updates
which are listed as installed? Then check the WindowsUpdate.log
One possible (and likely) explanation would be that the update site
was busy and deferred the download to a later date. Etc.
