I have auto update running, and every day, I get the Cumulative Security
Update for Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP (KB939653) Failed.

I have tried shutting down all firewall and security packages and retrying
the update with no success.

When I go into the updates history, It does not come up as failed, but
instead shows as status: Cancelled. Therefore, I don't get an error code to
find out why it has failed.

I don't remember having reset Explorer to it's original state which seems to
be the only other explanation I can see on here. I also can't see anything on
the troubleshooter.

All other updates seem to go through fine, just not this one.

Please help....

Thanks

Have a look into the "KB939653.log" file sitting in your Windows folder
(Start -> Run -> %windir%\KB939653.log [Enter key or OK]). Copy & paste
the *last* 30-40 lines of the content into your reply.

Start -> Run -> msconfig [Enter] -> System Start
Which entries do you find there?

I am now having the same problem with KB942615.

When I do (Start -> Run -> %windir%\KB939653.log [Enter key or OK]). or
(Start -> Run -> %windir%\KB942615.log [Enter key or OK]). I get a message
saying: Windows cannot find... please make sure it's typed in correctly...

Any ideas?

Pardon? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917925 may help you in finding
the culprit.

You don't have a "cleaning" program running in the background, do you?
In case you have, shut it down before trying to install anyinthing and
exclude it from running at Windows start (Start -> Run -> msconfig ->
System Start). Note that Windows doesn't need any of these programs
listed there in almost all case to start.

Do you use IE7? FWIW I have KB942615-IE7.log instead.

BTW it would be best to start your own thread with a more appropriate
Subject if you need more help with a different update than the one
being discussed here.
