There are several critical updates that keep recurring on my works PC - the
most frequent is KB944533. The system is Win XP Pro with SP3 and I upgraded
to IE7 a long time back. I have Symantec Anti-Virus v 10.xxx, but update
History shows that it has successfully installed each time and yet it will
later show as a critical update again. I am not de-installing the update.
It has occassionally reappeared same day, but it is usually several days
later.
I have tried ignoring, but it still reappears occassionally.
Are these truly new updates being delivered against the same KB?
If not, how can I ensure that:
a) the patch is truly installed successfully.
b) avoid the message being repeated.
Many thanks,

I have checked the log and I find a few "errors" listed, but not clear how to
resolve. Precis of the messages:
0.968: Failed To Enable SE_SHUTDOWN_PRIVILEGE
0.968: FileVersion of C:\Program Files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe is
Less Than 7.0.0.0
0.968: Condition succeeded for section Test.IE7InstallBlock.Section in Line
1 of PreRequisite
(but I AM using IE7)
2.297: LoadFileQueues: UpdSpGetSourceFileLocation for halmacpi.dll failed:
0xe0000102
2.328: No c:\windows\INF\updtblk.inf file.
5.812: KB944533 Setup encountered an error: The update.ver file is not
correct.
(seems to repeat from DoInstallation message and then continues)
14.203: GetCatVersion: Failed to retrieve version information from
C:\WINDOWS\system32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\KB944533.cat with error 0x57
19.047: Copied file (delayed): C:\WINDOWS\system32\SET84.tmp
19.422: Copied file (delayed): C:\WINDOWS\system32\SET86.tmp
22.906: UpdateSpUpdSvcInf: Source [ProcessesToRunAfterReboot] section is
empty; nothing to do.
22.906: IsRebootRequiredForFileQueue: At least one file operation was
delayed; reboot is required.
If none are listed below, check above for
delayed deletes.
22.906: DoInstallation: A reboot is required to complete the installation of
one or more files.
22.906: UpdateSpUpdSvcInf: Source
[ProcessesToRunAfterReboot.RebootNotRequired] section is empty; nothing to do.
22.984: RebootNecessary = 1,WizardInput = 1 , DontReboot = 1, ForceRestart = 0

All other messages seemed to indicate successful action. Hopefully someone
can point me in the right direction.
Cheers,

Huh? KB944533 is MS08-010 which has been released in February 2008(!) and
superseded by KB947864 (MS08-024), which has been superseded by ...
To make a long story short, KB944533 shouldn't be offered at all any longer.
The latest Cumulative Security Update for IE7 has been KB958215 (MS08-073)
accompanied by KB960714 (MS08-078).

Would you mind posting *the last* 30-40 lines of the "KB944533-ie7.log" file
which is residing in your Windows folder?
Start -> Run -> notepad %windir%\KB944533-ie7.log" [Enter]

What's the exact file version of the iexplore.exe in that specific
folder? Rightclick -> Properties -> Version

Do you have "moved" the Program Files folder onto another partition
by any chance?

Bye,
Freudi
