To those having probs with KB944786

Those with KB944786 problems.
Unless Google has been playing silly buggers over the last few days, the
below has just appeared on its pages - certain it was not there 2 days ago.
In addition I and some could find no trace in MS.com of this KB944786.
Anyhow, until this is sorted I have told my daughter not to try and install
her update.
However it is here???? showing as a recent review - wonder if it is any
different to that first offered weeks ago.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/944786

Yet a search in MS.com shows no trace of this KB? and many other searches
within MS web site.

Another Google has now popped this up
http://blogs.technet.com/mu/

Scroll down to -
'Response to recent web posts'
which might be of interest to all with Live updates as it is
asking for your help to be posted here

http://support.microsoft.com/security

I do hope this all means something - to me though very little as I do not
use any of this software. :-)
And I hope I picked the correct Live group in which to Xpost.

What problems?

KB944786 updates all users of Windows Live Toolbar 3.x to v3.01.0000.0146.
It's only offered if Microsoft Update is your default update source.

KB944786 was released on 29 Nov-07:

Sorry but find you reply a bit vague - I am not into lateral thinking at
this time of night :-(

The ones from Roger Post and RonG - you replied or perhaps you did not think
they had a problem?

Yes, my daughter has MU as default update.
I think I will tell her to get rid of it.

Yes, that is the same link I posted that mentions AU settings changing
etc. - you dont think there may be any connection?
Thanks

Why? Which problems does she have *exactly* with the update?

Pardon?

Since you didn't explain, *which* issue you're trying to fix, I don't see
how switching back from Microsoft Update to Windows Update would help in
solving problems with an update for the Windows Live Toolbar which is only
present if you've installed Windows Live Toolbar already. You may whish to
follow the related MSKB article and try to *update* the installed Live Tool-
bar via http://toolbar.live.com/

I saw your post first, hence the confusion. After seeing (and yes, replying
to) the other thread, I wondered why you didn't post your info in a reply to
it instead of beginning a new one.

Why? If she does that, she'll have to update her Office and most Windows
Live applications manually. While the former can be done with relative ease
via Office Updates website, keeping the latter updated might prove an
onerous task for anyone.

The blog entry I cited mentions nothing whatsoever about changes to AU
settings.

The most recent MU blog entry about supposedly unexpected changes to AU
settings is
http://blogs.technet.com/mu/archive/...web-posts.aspx.

[From what I've read about this, most users who claimed their AU settings
had been changed "without their permission" had in fact recently installed
Windows Live OneCare which will configure AU to "Automatic" by default. The
user can still reconfigure AU, though OneCare may protest about it.]

Sorry Freudi, I may have given the wrong end of the stick.
I was asking her to delay this update to avoid problems as first muted in
this group.
Thanks for the reply

Sorry, I meant uninstall the toolbar - unless that will cause her more
problems than its worth.

But that is not the way I read this - the para starting
Response to recent web posts [updated]
just refers to Tuesday's update/recent updates - nothing about WLOC - unless
you can read something else that I have missed.
It seems to just be another para of info unconnected with any other para in
particular.
At the moment she has had no problems with her current version, so I will
suggest she waits a few more days.
Thanks for your help again with your explanations.
