Since restarting my computer after this update installed, I have no sound. I
had sound before I restarted the computer.
I looked in the add/remove programs dialog and this update is not listed but
when I went to the history list on the update site it was listed as
installed. And there it said I could remove it by using the add/remove
programs dialog. Yes I have the show updates checked.

Have you quoted the correct KB number - its not a critical/security update -
what was this update for?
When did you update and how did you get this update?
What is your OS?

It was an update for the windows live toolbar. It was delivered to my
computer by the auto update process. I really was not give a choice. I was
told that the update was ready to install. I am using Windows XP. I
installed it three days ago now.

I don't use any of the Live software - but even a search for updates in
Windows Live got a negative response.
This is a worry - I have heard of pop-up alleging to be MS updates,
but.......... I assume you mean it was delivered via the yellow shield in
system tray.
As you are using that rather archaic web interface discussion group, search
in there for a Windows Live General as a starting point.
I am surprised nobody else has added to this post.
You do not have to accept any update if you do not want it.
Critical/security should be installed(alas) but anything else needs to be
looked at with care - I put nearly ALL non security stuff into the Hidden
Folder in WIN Update Home.

I wish you luck - if you do get this sorted, it would be appreciated if you
return to this post of yours and let all know.

If you didn't have Automatic Updates configured using the Automatic option,
you would have had a choice, Roger.

How to configure and use Automatic Updates in WinXP:

I took the live tool bar off and I have the sound back. I am not sure that
the first caused the second because the sound did not come back right away.
It came back after several restarts of the computer. I think it was the next
day.

I have downloaded the live tool bar again but have not installed it.

I sure thank you guys for trying to help.

Hi, everyone, I am also having a problem with this update for WINDOWS LIVE
TOOLBAR (KB944786) which has come via the automatic updates. When I right
click on this on my update history page I am given the error code 80070643.
I have made sure that OSE is running and tried again, and again, and again,
without success! It is very annoying since surely the ball is in the WINDOWS
court, but all the links they provide lead nowhere. In addition, the 22
lines of failure spoil entirely the look of my update history, which up to
now is full of successes. Do I just wait until MS bring out a solution? I
suppose so!
