KB944786 Won't Install

I cannot get Windows Live Toolbar (KB944786) to install under Vista. Per the
troubleshooting steps, I went into Office Source Engine (OSE), set the
Startup Type to Automatic (Delayed Start) and then Start. It still failed to
install. The next step was to go into OSE and set it to Manual then Start,
and again it fails.

Anyone else had this problem and resovled it? Thanks in advance.

Can you download and manually install it via http://toolbar.live.com/ ?

NB: You do not need to uninstall your current version before installing
v3.01.0000.0146.

That installed. I then went back and tried reinstalling the update and it
failed again. Or, should I uncheck that update and ignore it? That is, did
the manual download accomplish the same thing? Thanks.

Are you saying that KB944786 is beeing reoffered via Windows Update
*after* you've installed the latest version via <http://toolbar.live.com>?

In case you have version 3.01.0000.0146 of Windows Live Toolbar right
now, a double Yes.

I do have version 3.01.0000.0146 installed. So, I went into the Control
Panel and hid that update. Thanks.
