Hi I just bought a brand new computer that came with xp, but also with the
disks for vista business. The upgrade went smoothly and then when I went to
install the Windows updates, it appears that these items installed:
Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.39.25.0),
Windows Search 4.0 for Windows Vista (KB940157), Update for Microsoft XML
Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB941833), Windows Malicious Software
Removal Tool - July 2008 (KB890830), Windows Live Sign-in Assistant, Windows
Live Messenger, Update for Windows Vista (KB952709), Security Update for
Windows Vista (KB950582), Update for Windows Vista (KB955020), Security
Update for Windows Vista (KB951376), Update for Windows Vista (KB938371),
Security Update for Windows Vista (KB941693), Security Update for Windows
Vista (KB948590), Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1
Service Pack 1 (KB929729), Security Update for Windows Vista (KB950762),
Update for Windows Mail Junk E-mail Filter [July 2008] (KB905866), Update for
Windows Vista (KB951978), Security Update for Windows Vista (KB951698),
Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2
(KB936181), Update for Windows Vista (KB940510), Cumulative Security Update
for Internet Explorer 7 in Windows Vista (KB950759), Cumulative Security
Update for ActiveX Killbits for Windows Vista (KB950760), Definition Update
for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.37.1115.0)
However, this is the message I get for the one that didn't: Update for
Windows Vista (KB947562)

Installation date: ‎7/‎30/‎2008 9:29 AM

Installation status: Failed

Error details: Code 8024200D

Update type: Recommended

Install this update to resolve a set of known application compatibility
issues with Windows Vista. After you install this item, you may have to
restart your computer.

More information:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947562

Help and Support:
http://support.microsoft.com

I am not very computer literate, so will need very detailed instructions on
how to fix. I have no virus program installed yet,

Thanks in advance for any help.

Did you reboot the system and try the installation again ?
Or, download it from here and SAVE it:

x86 32 bit Vista
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Once the download completes close all open browsers and programs.
*Right* click Windows6.0-KB947562-x86.msu and choose ' Run as
administrator'. Follow the prompts.
Did that get it installed ?

8024200D usually indicates the entire download of updates was not completed.
