KB950126 install failure

This is on a Athlon 64 machine running 32 bit Vista Ultimate with SP1
installed. It is set to auto download and install updates and it has worked
well until yesterday with the subject update.

I've tried manual download and install and always get the same problem. The
install gets to the configuring updates 3 of 3, gets to 87%, restarts, and
continually loops these steps. I have to do a restore from the Repair
function on the OS disc.

When I look at the update history there are 3 failed installs of the subject
update with an error code 800F0816.

Can anyone suggest what my problem might be and how I might be able to fix
it?

I had the same issue and had to do a system restore (Diff KB number tho).

In the end I downloaded the update and installed the update by it self from
ms themselves rather than from windows update (I also selected "run as
administrator" when I ran my download)...

Microsoft is offereing free technical support for SP1 related issues so if
you cannot find much help in the forums here, feel free to give them a call.
