I've just done a fresh install of XP pro 32, patched to SP3. When i run
update it keeps telling me to install Windows XP Security Update for Windows
XP (KB951698) . I do this and it installs successfully and saves to my
history (attached below) but it keeps appearing in the high priority
downloads list again ??
Any ideas for fix apart from hiding the update ?

Assuming it's not listed in Add/Remove Programs...

1. CrystalBall© sez...

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP
installation:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144

NB: Also applies to clean installs, upgrade installs, and Recovery installs.

2. If no joy, see the section "How to obtain help and support for this
security update" here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951698
