KB951748 is breaking net connections - a known issue?

XP update KB951748 is breaking net connections. Didn't know where best to
report this. I know it affected me (Be Broadband) and my friend (with BT).
With the update installed on my up-to-date XP SP3 install there's no net
connectivity at all. Only workaround I've found so far is to remove it, then
everything works again.

Is this a known issue? Any ideas?

Regards

Con.

I experienced the same thing on two computers and spent three hours on the
phone with a tech support rep in India that had the temerity to tell me that
I should report the trouble to my ISP when my non-updated computers worked
fine, but the recently-updated computers would not connect to the Internet.
Boo to tech support in India!!!

you can go to Security center and and then automatic updates then check
notify me but, do not install updates. Then uncheck KB951748 and you
will be able to not have it return.

Haha. I hate phone monkies. Sounds like a rough day you had there. I'm just
reading it's a specific ZoneAlarm issue with no update as yet and ZA's
official workaround is to remove the update. Hardly ideal, but at least I now
know about it so can prevent any more problems. Last thing we need is Update
breaking things.

There is a known issue if Zone alarm is on these boxes...otherwise it
is something else.

Turns out that this is a ZoneAlarm issue -

To their credit, ZoneAlarm is acknowledging the problem.

Again, to ZoneAlarm's credit, they've just posted this bulletin -

Yeah I already sorted that out, thanks. Still, all the better for saying so,
so others can benefit.
