After installing the problematic KB951748 update -- no I haven't got Zone
Alarm installed -- I now find that my good old reliable Nero 6 refuses to
burn CDs/DVDs, or more specifically any with AVI files, it reports an error
and then Nero crashes.

Remove the update, it all works again.

Anyone else seen this? Any ideas?

Of course Windows Update is now continually nagging me to install new
updates...

Strange, why would/should Nero 6 make use of DNS request?
Anyhow, and despite the fact you didn't mentioned the Windows version you're
running on, have you tried reinstalling KB951748 with *no* application what
so ever running in the background during the installation?

Bye,

I have: XP Media Centre Edition 2005
SP3
Nero 6

KB951748 update is not causing me any problem with Nero 6.

Nor is it causing any issue here with Nero 6.3.1.20 and MCE 2002, SP3.

I think it's to do with my codecs, I got rid of an xvid codec I had
installed and everything seems ok again, sorry to have bothered you.

This is strange. Does that mean the xvid codec is asking for internet connectivity? If so, is it a trojan?
