It appears that the system 'thinks' that the update branch is sp3bta,
SP3 beta. You're not alone in this, Martyn. Suggest you contact MS: http://support.microsoft.com/oas/def...3&gprid=522131 " Free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available for Windows XP, but only for Service Pack 3 (SP3). This support for SP3 is valid until April 14, 2009. For more information about this policy, visit the Windows XP Support Lifecycle page located at http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=3223. Availability of chat or e-mail support differs depending on your geographic location. For customers residing in North America or Canada, chat and e-mail support is available. Some issues may require more advanced support for which there is a charge. " or, from : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953838 " How to obtain help and support for this security update For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY in the United States and Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft subsidiary. For more information about how to contact your local Microsoft subsidiary for support issues with security updates, visit the Microsoft International Support Web site: http://support.microsoft.com/common/....aspx?rdpath=4 " MowGreen [MVP 2003-2008] =============== *-343-* FDNY Never Forgotten =============== MartynB wrote: > The IE7 Security Update KB953838 has been repeatedly failing to install > with the Error Code: 0x8007F0F1. cf. your earlier thread here:
http://groups.google.com/group/micro...73a2e85e136db6 Did you EVER have a beta or Release Candidate build of WinXP SP3 installed? What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)? Were any of these applications running in the background when you installed or uninstalled any version of WinXP SP3? =================== Start a free Windows Update support incident request: https://support.microsoft.com/oas/de...spx?gprid=6527 Support for Windows Update: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/wusupport For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY in the United States and in Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft subsidiary. There is no-charge for support calls that are associated with security updates. When you call, clearly state that your problem is related to a Security Update and cite the update's KB number (e.g., KB123456). LOOK! => If your problem relates to a Cumulative Security Update for IE, call the above number and ask to be transferred to the Consumer IE7 queue (which is 47830).
