KB971029 Autoplay update disabled my Vista theme

I installed this update to "restrict AutoRun entries in the AutoPlay
dialog to only CD and DVD drives" and after reboot my Vista was
transformed to looking like Windows 95. I use System Restore to remove
the patch and everything reverted back to before.

Try it on another machine. Same thing. Both machines are running Vista
Home Basic (updated to SP2)

What has gone wrong??

Hi,

Looking at the files affected by that update, I'd say it's probably normal
as it replaces many of the shell files used by Vista with generic modules
applicable to several different versions of Windows.

problem.

Thx

Hi,

Run services.msc and restart the Themes service.

Thanks for the advice. I tried that already before starting this topic,
but it had no effect whatsoever.

Looks like I have to abandon this patch.
