KB974771, KB972580, KB974554, KB973705 not installing in XP

Hi there!

The other day, a fellow board member posted a question about these updates
not installing after several attempts. I posted a reply, saying I have faced
the same problem. Here is a copy of the original posts:

I am having the same issues. I have tried download/install from the auto
updater, from the Windows Update website, and as my machine was shutting down.

I have also tried clearing my cookies and temporary Internet files, as well
as disabling my anti-virus. Still, the little yellow shield is staring at me!

I'm nearly at the end of my rope. I'm running XP/SP3. Suggestions?

Assuming you're running Office 2003, too...

1. Download/install the following then reboot:

Description of the update for Office 2003 (December 9, 2008)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949074

2. Insert your Office 2003 CD into the appropriate drive bay before
attempting to install the updates again.

I am having the same problem. What if you do not have the disc for Office
2003 (his ex has it!) and won't give it back. I have tried to download the
update about 10 times and have researched the open forums and still nothing.
HELP!

If the ex has the disk, presumably the ex also has the license, so I'd suggest
either buying a new copy or uninstalling it.

Harry.

See if you can download the "fullfile" version of the update(s) via
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/ or http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/
and then install it/them manually.
