56.4 MB to add five words to the dictionary.

Is this for real?

That's not all it does. Look at the KB page.
BTW, it's 955020 not 995020.....

I noticed that too :-D
I bet the 0.4 MB are related to some file containing the actual 5 words, and
the rest 56 MB are probably something they don't want to talk about ;-)

ok so I completely read KB955020 & KB934269. All the patch does is replace
four files ( Nlslexicons0007.dll, Nlslexicons0009.dll, Nlslexicons0007.dll,
Nlslexicons0009.dll ) to add five words to the dictionary. What else do you
think it does?

Strange thing is obama isn't even in the dictionary. its only a
biographical name. Names don't make the cut in printed dictionaries. This
patch is a conspiracy.

Perhaps they're really, really long words.

Yes the 4 DLLS being replaced are over over 30MB the additional files are
supporting files required to process the update.
Unfortunately hot patching, where only the delta required to the original
file is shipped and merged is not always available

Admittedly 4 out of the 5 entries (as far as I am aware) being added are
proper-nouns (also known as proper names) and as such are not usually
considered for inclusion in dictionaries as it would effectively mean the
inclusion of every forename (and potentially surname) used in the
appropriate language. So technically these should not be being added to a
"dictionary". However as this is updating the "spell checker"
functionality within a few applications then you could say this is not a
true dictionary but one that has dictionary like qualities (in terms of
words and spellings- but lacking definitions), so adding these additional
"commonly" used words may be seen as relevant.
It should be noted that Clinton and Reagan (and many others) are already in
the spell checker in Vista.
The firth entry "Friendster", well another social networking site so that
too is in "common" use.

Personally I would be happy to just add the correctly spelt proper noun when
I use it to MY spell checker and not really require my vendor to decide
which proper names are necessary and which not.

Ah thanks Mike. That makes sense.

I completely agree on the vendor created spell checker.
