I have just changed over to Windows Live mail. Everytime I recieve a message,
it appears in my inbox twice, so instead of getting 4 messages, I recieve 8.
Keep having to delete all the copies! Help. Thanks

[Forwarded to Windows Live Mail newsgroup via crosspost.]

Greetings Wrenni,

Do you happen to know what kind of mailbox this is (POP, IMAP, or Hotmail/HTTP)? Also, I've
also sent replies to be sent to the Live Mail newsgroup where Live Mail MVP will be better
able to assist you (plus they're awesome).

This works for Outlook Express, perhaps for WLM as well?

For Hotmail, or IMAP accounts:

Tools | Options | General tab. Uncheck: Send and receive messages at
startup.

See Bruce's suggestion on WLM' Settings(Tools/Options/General tab)
- 'Send and receive at startup' (uncheck); and
- 'Check every x minutes(uncheck)

Please provide the info, Jonathan requested
- pop3, imap, Hotmail(Http)

If pop3 what is the account domain(Gmail.com, Yahoo.com, your isp etc, Live.com)
If Hotmail what server is in use(DeltaSync or Live.com)

If Pop3, is WLM configured to leave messages on the server ? (fyi..the default is 'yes')

Are these incoming messages or are they duplicates due to WLM still indexing your prior email client message store ?

Gayle, let me get this straight. Your complaint is that when you receive
an email in your Windows Mail, a copy is also received in your webmail?
To avoid that problem:
In Windows Mail, go to Tools, Accounts, select your mail account,
Properties, Advanced, unselect "Leave a copy of messages on server."

So your incoming messages for your Hotmail account appear
in the default POP (non-Hotmail) account as well.

Go to the web interface for that POP account and make sure it isn't
configured to forward a copy to your Hotmail account.

Another possible culprit is Hotmail's POP aggregation feature.
Go to http://hotmail.com, log in, then click on Options, More options,
and under "Manage your account" click on "Send and receive mail
from other e-mail accounts". Anything there that shows your POP
account? If so, remove that option.

Gayle,
If I may ask...had you previously configured Pop3 aggregation in Hotmail ?
- Note: Aggregation is a relatively new term introduced by Hotmail in the last year, in the past it was just called Pop3.
