Keep getting error messages

I recently got a laptop that has Windows Vista. Each time i try to close the
browser when i'm finished it gives me this "Internet Explorer has stopped
working" message, then it'll say its going to restart so it restarts a new
window.
How can i stop this from happening?

I want to install Mozilla Firefox but each time i try to it gives me the
same message i stated above. Does windows vista not allow you to install
other web browser's?
If it has anything to do with it. Any help would be muchly appreciated!

What have you installed recently that may not be Vista compliant that could
possible have started this situation?
