Keep getting stop error messages and Updates won't install

I keep getting the following stop-error messages:
STOP: 0X00000024 (0X00190428, 0X96F03750, 0X96F0344C, 0X8186F12C

and

STOP: 0X00000007F (0X00000008, 0X80139000, 0X00000000, 0X000000000)

This is after I put in a new hard drive and tried to install Vista. It
installed but now when I try to download McAfee security suite or if I'm
trying to download the 'important' updates, it always does the stop-error and
re-starts. Could it be a problem with my video card? A defective hard drive?
Processor not big enough (AMD Athlon XP 2200+ 1.80 GHz)?
