I have a win2k sp4 machine. Everytime I run windows updates the patches
install successfully, however when I reboot and return to the windows update
page it says that the same patches need to be installed. Why does the
machine not recognize the updates are already installed? No matter how many
times I run the updates this continues to happen.

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried scanning for adware using AdAware?

Hi;

Even though the updates appear to have installed correctly, there is
probably a portion of your Registry that didn't get updated. Thus you get
offered the same updates again. This article may help:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;Q319109

Note that after the next session and seeing the item download/install, open
RegEdit and check for the KB number under this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\HotFix

Locate the item you just installed, then in the right pane, verify that the
"Installed" and "Valid" subkeys both have a value of 1.

Sorry, I was distracted when writing the prior post. I meant to add that
while the above article applies to XP, the same principle applies to your
Windows 2000 SP4 system. Just that the Registry location mentioned in the
article will be here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Wind ows 2000\SPx

> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\HotFix

This one is the same for both systems.
